I bought my wife a Model 39. Its used but in excellent shape. Best of all she loves it and can shoot it comfortably even with arthritis problems. It came with a spare firing pin and spring.

My question is, how do I replace the firing pin should I ever have to do so? It looks like the safety would have to removed first but thats a guess. I don't want to go experimenting and screw things up.

Thanks

I've never seen a broken firing pin in a S&W but I've replaced the springs on a regular maintinance routine. It's actually easier on a 39 as they don't have the firing pin safety. You need to push the firing pin forward past the safety body with a thin punch then press the safety body out the side. The safety body does have a spring & plunger that will pop out as it comes out of the slide, using a large plastic bag to take it apart in will help catch anything that flys off. It will take all three of your hands to put it back together.

Thank you. Thats what I needed.
