Looks like it was born 1993,it may be a limited production of target model with full underlug and new yoke retention system (Suprica Standard of Smith & Wesson).

That question was just asked on the SWCA forum, and no, Roy Jinks doesn't know how many were made as the S/N's were mixed in with the other mod 60's. I do know it would have been made most probably in 1993, and is a companion piece to the 36-6, 3" full lug with adj. sights with satin black finish. There were only about 615 of the 36-6 models made, and I do know that the 60-4 were "limited'. I have heard a guess that there may have been around 1000 made, but no one knows for sure. They are much easier to find than the 36-6, but are not plentyfull.

They are super neat! I much prefer the 60-4 over the 36-6, due to the finish on the 36 being what I consider "fragile" compared to the 60. You can carry and use the 60 without worrying that the black matte type finish of the 36-6 wearing off.

That may be the best small trail gun for the backpacker who doesn't need magnum power, and it is a fine small defense gun, too.

I love mine!

Can members post pics of their M-60-4's?

Mine has the color casehardened trigger and hammer, but most seem to have the flash-chromed ones.

I agree the 36-6 finish is "fragile". I carried mine on a Prairie Dog hunt for three days in a holster, and the wear was already evident. The weight and balance is excellant and very accurate. One of my favorite shooters.

Don't know much about the hist'ry but my partner and each bought one in 1993 because they were such a cool little gun.

Fifteen years and about 1000 rounds later I still think it's a cool little gun. Just possibly the best thing S&W ever made.

Landpimp; Do you know what year that one was made? I like the stocks on it.

The 60-4 is a cool little revolver, I picked one up last year with box and papers, it looked unfired.Mine is very smooth, with no play at all in the cylinder.

I have two sets of those grips - but I need the gun for my little girl . . . if anyone is ever interested in selling, provided its a 38/367 I would like a crack at it.

Checking the book on this one, the gun can be okay for +P rounds. Anyone use them in their 60-4?

Re Plus P, any M-60 with the -4 or higher suffix is factory Rated for Plus P. I use them sparingly in mine, for familarization and actual carry.

No need to abuse the gun with routine use, but they told me on the phone that the M-60 -4 will handle a lot more of them than older M-60's will. New heat treating and cylinder retention system account for that.

Well, I really messed up now - took her to the safe and she held the model 60, 2 inch barrel, likes the little hogue bantam grips - I said try this Model 66, with slim stag grips and tritium - she just smiled and said it feels better - then she held a model 19, same gun in blue? Sure baby, well I like blue better, but I can carry the stainless one. The 4incher seems okay with her. I guess I just sell those two pair of combat grips for a j frame, they just are not appropriate on the snubbies, but sure look great on a 3 inch or 5 inch model 60. Did I say 5 inch?
