Mod to fit BCM Gunfighter charging handle on M&P 10

Like many people mine binded against S&W's (longer? or more forward?) gas key. I let the action close 5 times to create faint marks so I could inspect where the binding was happening. It looks like the little step in the top channel is too far back on the BCM.

It just took a few minutes with a round file:

I have these handles on both 5.56 and 7.62. It is even more impressive on the 7.62 in preventing binding when operated from one side only due to the heavier buffer spring.

Thanks for the info on the mod Arizona Mike. I'm a newby. Just to clarify, the 7.62 BCM Gunfighter charging handle is NOT a simple drop in charging handle for the M&P 10?

If it is not a drop in charging handle, what are the charging handles that will fit on the M&P 10 without modifications (assuming you know)? Thanks.

Rainier Arms Raptor 7.62 fits great and works awesome!

I understand that the Raptor may not be a drop in fit on every M&P 10, but is easily modified if needed.

Not a drop in on my rifle or in general according to an e-mail from BCM. Some have said theirs works well enough but even if true (and they are not just unaware of the problem) it would be hit or miss at best.

It is however a super-simple mod.

I do not know about others. I love the BCM and wanted to make it work so I did and it works great.
