I find it difficult to get my clinder to release when I push the release latch. I have to exert some force to get the cylinder to open. Is there an adjustment or do I just live with it and exert the pressure? It is the only S&W revolver I have with this problem. Appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Almost universally a sign of a poorly fitted ejector rod. With the cylinder open, use something flat to push the end of the centerpin flush with the headspace button at the reat of the cylinder. With the rod held in, the front end of the center pin should stick out of the ejector rod about 0.005 inches.

This subject has been covered at length several times. A search should provide you with extended discussion on the subject.

Start by making sure the extractor rod is TIGHT. It doesn't take much loosening to give the issues you are having.

First, check to be sure the extractor rod is tight. Then check to be sure the center pin entends slightly above the end of the extractor rod as WR Moore said. If the center pin is not above flush, just enough to know it is, then the end of the extractor rod needs to be trimmed until it is. This should fix the problem. If not then check to be sure the end of the bolt (in the center hole of the breech face) is flush with the breech face. If not there is probably some debris inside the gun blocking travel of the bolt, clean it internally.

Thanks for the responses. I will also do a search as suggested. I looks like the bolt does not come even with the breech face. I can feel it is just a little short.

See thread "Extractor rod damage" to be sure whether you have right or left hand threads.
