Bought a new Model 10 back in the late '60s, shot it maybe a dozen times, maybe 300-400 rounds total, always kept it clean & oiled, it is around here somewhere, last saw it maybe 2005 or so, wonder what it is worth. Has holster & belt. believe it is a 4' barrel.

That's funny. . .you lost your gun! A really nice one from that time period is bringing close to $500 in some places. I like to find them around here (Georgia) in the $350-$400 range. If I find a nice one in the $250-$300 range, I've had a really good day.

Just found it, in a lock box with a trigger lock, went thru fifteen kids & grandkids just like that. Ser # on butt is D384782. It is a 4" barrel and am not sure if it is a 10-5 or a 10, barrel has 38 S&W Special stamoed on it and it has trademark below trigger and Made in USA/Marcas Registradas/Smith & Wesson/Springfield, Mass below fixed 6- shell revolving cartridge holder. Is in excellent shape, not sure whether I want to part with it yet, may go out & shoot it a few times first. Used to be pretty good with it.

Welcome! The serial number puts it as being produced in 1971. At that time two model 10 variants were made, the -5 with the standard or tapered barrel and the -6 with an untapered or bull barrel.

If it is in near-new condition it is probably worth in the $400 range as others mentioned, but you will likely regret selling it (even at a 200+% profit from when you bought it new). The era of handfitted, polished blue factory S & W revolvers is long gone and faithful long-term friends are hard to come by :)..

Totally agree with above. The regret I have from the ones I sold or traded in the past is enormous.

Thanks for the info, Murphydog, I did get it in late 1971, confused it with another pistol, a Colt M1911 38 which I gave to my brother years ago. I did get off my duff, cleaned & oiled it & went out & shot the hell out of it. Felt pretty good, can still shoot. BTW meant to say "10-5 or 10-6 in my description, it is a 10-5. Just cleaned & oiled it for the 4th time this week & put it away. Will definitely hang onto it, maybe will it to my son.

DocB; put on that ski mask and you should be fine:D

I can think of a couple revolvers that I purchased back in the late 60's or early 70's that I wish I had misplaced somewhere and then found them recently!!!! And one of them was a Model 10. I have replaced those revolvers with others of similar vintage and love them, but I'd sure like to have the originals. You are a lucky feller, in my view. Glad you found it and are going to hang on to it and enjoy it. The revolver deserves that!!
