Model 1000 Semi Auto

I walked into a local gunshop today and the owner showed me a shotgun he just took in. It's a S&W Model 1000 semi auto in 20 gauge with a full choke. The gun is new with the hang tags still on it but unfortunately no box. He want $350 for it.
Does anyone have any experience with one of these as I'm thinking about buying it? It was made in Japan.

Welcome to the forum.

I've owned several over the years and shot a Super Skeet for a while. My brother still has a 12ga 1000 and loves it for upland birds (his is choked I.C.). The lines are similar to the Remington 1100, but most of them have an aluminum alloy receiver and they feel different. I always felt the fit and finish were better on the 1000 than on the Remington, but they don't have a strong market value. They were made by Howa for S&W. I wouldn't have much use for a 20ga full choke and would pass on it at that price (if it was $250 I'd have to buy it

). The Remington 1100 was/is way more common and parts and accessories are everywhere.

Thanks for your input, I'm still thinking about it since it's brand new and I like 20 gauges.

if its a full choke most any gunsmith can ream it out to fit your needs.

Or you could send the barrel to Briley and have them set it up for screw in chokes...the best option IMVHO.

Super Skeet

One of the things I like about the Super Skeet is having the bolt release on the left side of the receiver. Makes it very easy to load the 2d shell on the skeet field.
