I purchased a new to me 13-3 last Saturday. 90% + condition with almost no cylinder line. Fairly heavy trigger pull like it has not been shot much. So I pulled out some old plastic dummy rounds for dry firing. After maybe 100 times the plastic rounds started breaking off at the rear. I carefully rotated the cylinder using live rounds and had no problems.

I am wondering if this is a problem with the gun or just the 20 year old plastic rounds? As a firearms instructor I never had a problems with these rounds but that was many years ago.

I used to use real discharged rounds with a used primer and projectile. But on the range students would give me rounds which would not fire. I put them in my pocket for later inspection. I realized that some of these bad rounds could get mixed up with my dummy rounds so I never used them again.

Am I making a mountain out of a molehill or ???

Perhaps, yes. You won't know until you live fire the gun at the range. I would guess all is well with your model 13. I have had problems with snap caps breaking before, especially the ones made by Tipton. Basically, a piece of spring loaded, plastic junk.

If it's a used gun, before firing, you should probably take it to a trusted gunsmith or armorer. Having a knowledgeable repair person give it the once over is a good idea, just for safety reasons, since you don't know the history of the gun.
