Model 13 anyone care to talk about them

I was in my fav gun store yesterday and what did my old eyes see.....model 13 3" blued round booty...............and my pockets were empty. Ok, enough now. Can y'al tell me anything 'bout these thangs other than the fact it is the oh so bad number 13. I just might buy that 13.

I'm very partial to fixed sight service revolvers. Get it!

I love mine. It looks just like the one posted above by Shooting4life, 3" heavy barrel and combat grips. I think it's one of the best looking revolvers that S&W ever made.
It will give you the big kaboom with .357 when you want that or you can ease down to .38 spl and wadcutters and it's a great feeling, great pointing gun. My other Smiths were adj. sights but the 13 with the fixed sights gives me a great alignment on the target.
There is talk here and there about the K frame with .357 sometimes causing frame/forcing cone damage but I think most of the experienced voices here think that is rare.
So, to answer your question, Yes we love to talk about the Model 13!

I would think a deposit or purchase is in order depending if it's under or over 500.00 I like my four inch but would love one of those or the stainless version... Or several

Over 27 years ago when I started my law enforcement career I carried a 3" RB 13 as an off duty weapon. It was the perfect pistol. I foolishly ended up trading it off for something else I could not live without and have always regretted it. I found a 3" RB model 547 recently and it is a great gun but would jump on a 3" 13 in a minute. Get it now you will not regret it.

After seeing what forum I was in I realized that this girl is to old to be here...

There is talk here and there about the K frame with .357 sometimes causing frame/forcing cone damage but I think most of the experienced voices here think that is rare.

Forcing cone barrel damage was rare. On the few occasions it did happen the cause is believed to be the use of 110Gr. and 125Gr. full house .357 Magnum loads. The 158Gr. .357 magnum loads did not cause this. As barrels for K frames are almost imposable to locate if there is a problem, I no longer shoot "hot Loads" in my K frame .357 Magnums that what my L & N frames are for. I do though load .357 Magnum loads for S/D though.

I have a holster-worn not-so-pretty SB 13-1 4" shooter. I still carry it on occasion in winter. Terrific trigger, I get my best target results with it when I practice defensive shooting.

But I think the 3" M13 might be the perfect carry weapon - big enough to be scary and keep the recoil down, small enough to carry, long enough to get most of the bullet velocity and accuracy, and it looks 'balanced' me. Shoots 357 and you can save some cash by practicing with 38sp if you want.

Iwant to thank each and everyone for their comments and pics, WOW. I'm thinking this way, "Yeap, I need another somewhat sub like I need another hole". But danggggggggggg boys that mod13 is soooooooo nice and the price is sooooooooooo nice. Ok, I had a talk with my brain and Brain said .....hmmmmmmmmm Do it.

I wish I had mine back, or a Model 65 in three inch for that matter. Got a local gun show coming up; make take my seldom-used 3953 and see if I might find one for trade.
