I saw a couple of 14-7s with the underlug and begain thinking that I don't see too many of them being discussed or up for sale.
I looked in Suprica's book and see that they were the last 14s to be produced and ran from 1997-1999 before they discontinued the model 14 altogether.
Anyone want to take an estimate on production numbers of these?
Anyone have one?

As in other areas of S&W collecting, this is extremely hard to do, since most of our perspective is based on what we see locally, which is skewed towards what the local marketplace is buying.
This version of the M14 isn't seen all that often, and I'm sure it is due to low production, being late in the life span and factored by the lack of interest in 38 special guns in particular.
I'm aware of 2 or 3 others are owned by members of this forum, which isn't a great sampling but indicative of how small the total production run must have been.

I love those grips SmithNut. Who made those if I can ask?
I guess I am fortunate to find these two 14-7s recently. Alhough i'm not really into the newer Smiths, these are really smooth target guns which balance very nicely. They are both about 98% guns. I've got one of the 16-4s which is the same frame basically except square butt. I'm debating if I should keep one of these and try to find a 17-5 with the underlug for a set.

Those grips are Craig Spegel Boot Plus grips. His grips are favorites, they are on most of my modern Smiths.
Neat pair, you did well to find those.....
BTW - I like the full underlug guns as well....

This is when I first had a Pre 14 through a 14-7. The dash seven was the most difficult to find. Found it on an auction site and was glad to pay top dollar for it to fill the void. It was and is unfired from the factory ANIB. It is the one wearing the Goodyears....top left. Sorry for the inadequate, old pic.

Quite a few of those 6" ones were sold thru the LAPD Revolver club store awhile back...6" was a cool revolver length for awhile. I remember several coppers trying to sell their 6" guns cheap, but no takers, when the 9 came out.

New in the box would certainly demand a premium. The underlug K-38s are not as commonly encountered as the old thin barrels but have yet to be recognized for their scarcity.
I'd say yours has got to be worth $600 plus.
