In a recent thread MattNH was asking for stock recommendations for his Model 15-3. Since it has target hammer and trigger there was some discussion whether it would likely have have shipped with target stocks as well.
Here is a circa 1971 Model 15-3 with the original box that clearly shows it shipped with Target hammer & Target trigger, but “S” stocks (meaning Standard or magna style). Based on my observations this configuration was the norm in the early to mid-70’s . . . the “full target” option with 3T’s seem to become more the norm in the late 70’s.
There was also a comment made by policerevolvercollector that because Matt had only a $30 investment in the gun he might spend a little extra and dress it up with a pair of custom combat grips from one of the LAPD grip makers such as Fuzzy Farrant or John Hurst . . . ala “Adam 12”.
Here’s what it would look like with combat grips from another of those custom grip makers of LAPD fame . . . Guy Hogue. Note these are an example of his early 2-piece grips . . . before the Monogrip that his company made famous . . . and before S&W’s attempt at making factory combat grips.
Hope you enjoy,
Russ
