Model 15 in Stainless Steel???????

Yesterday I stopped by my LGS to pick up an item. While there I asked to see a pre-owned stainless steel Model 15 that was in the case.
It was a 4" stainless barrel, black adjustable rear sights, and definitely a stainless steel frame. Not nickel. The barrel was marked 38 CTG. But upon opening the crane, the Model 15-3 was stamped there.

My guess is that it is a Model 67 that was mistakenly stamped as a Model 15.

Your thoughts?

GO back to that shop. There was a group of 20 Model 15's made in Stainless Steel. They were made in 1960. They were in the serial number range of K 397810 to K397830. If is is in fact a Stainless Steel model, buy it!

Most likely not SS unless as posted above ( if it is actually SS jump all over it !) ;possibly an applied aftermarket finish, but probably not a K38/15, most likely it's a Model 67

never say never, but that being said, just last week we saw "another" so called model 19, that they claimed was stainless and in fact was a "Metalife SS" finish done by Ron Mahovsky at some time,,,,,when we had our shop in Cleveland back in the mid 70's we had done, many, many guns through Ron back then.....very favorite finish for the local PDs....

simple "cold blue" test under the grips, say on the grip frame will tell you instantly if the gun is stainless or in fact carbon steel ( 4140 chrome moly?)

Still it behoves you to check out the serial number range, just in case it is one of the factory "extras"????
To me the price would still be the deciding factor, a deal is a deal, is a deal....

As a follow up to my post. A Connecticut dealer has James Oberg's Model 15 in Stainless Steel. He bought it from Oberg's widow, along with several other revolvers.
