Model 17-6 4" question

I'm looking for assistance on a 17-6 4". I've come across this revolver, full lug, good condition, in the box (sorry, no pics, yet). Here's my question: according to Wikipedia, the 4" barrels are scarce and a premium due to the model 18 being introduced at roughly the same time (not previous 17s, just the 17-6). The 4th Catalog has no special notes regarding this.
So, is this 22 worth close to 1k? There's several 'ifs' here but 'if' I get it, I'll post pics.

Wiki has it wrong. The .22 Combat Masterpiece (pre-model 18) came out decades before the 17-6.

I have a 4" 17-6, a 4" 617-1 and a 6" 617. They all have full lugs. I shoot the 617-1 the most and find the 6" too muzzle heavy. Yes, a nice boxed example is worth 1K, especially if it comes with factory combat stocks.

What's interesting and not widely known is that the dash-6 was the changeover to full lug/combat stocks but this changeover did not begin at the start of the dash-6. They made probably a little less than half of the dash-6's with the familiar ribbed target barrel and goncalo alves target stocks before they began the full lug barrels with combats.

I would guess that a 4-inch 17-6 is less common than a 6-inch 17-6 with full lug barrel.

At the same time, I don't even know if they made a 4-inch Model 17-6 with the ribbed target barrel.

A thousand? That's market if the revolver you're looking at is high condition. The original box is definitely a plus, check the end label.

I have a 17-6 4" gun and it is a great shooter. I like blued better than stainless. If the gun you are looking at is a full package (box, docs and tools) $1k is a good price IMHO. There aren't that many 17-6's out there in either barrel length.

FWIW, $1K for a 4" 17-6 with combats is a great price, even without the box and goodies; I sure wouldn't sell mine for a grand. Other than mine, I've never seen another 4" in the wild.

I like the full lug rimfires, but agree the 6 and 8 inchers are muzzle heavy, but they look cool.
