Need a holster for a 6" model 17, the generic K frame holsters are all for a .357 and they just don't fit the gun securely. Anyone have any advice? I tried West Woods Landing, they make a nice nylon holster and I have one for a Bersa auto but they are not making them lined any longer and I am concerned the Cordura nylon will wear the bluing. Any help appreciated. Jim

I think a nice Bianchi 5BHL might do nicely! A classic look for a classic revolver.

Or a Galco Phoenix strongside/crossdraw. I have both, but I believe the Galco is nicer.

El Paso Saddelry makes some awesome holsters, and our own forum member Lobogunleather makes some great looking gear.

Thanks, I have a Bianchi for my Model 19, the 17 fit is a little loose. Even though both are K frames the 17 is slimmer in the cylinder. Maybe it is worn/stretched a little. Thanks for the help. Jim

I have a S&W basketweave holster for this K-22.

But I would suggest a lined holster to protect the bluing better.

I would suggest that you measure your .22 and .357 cylinders. Both are K frame and both are the same diameter.

It's more likely that the thicker barrel of the M-19, especially at the muzzle end, and the ejector rod shroud, make for a tighter fit and keeps the Magnum from moving around as much.

I heartily recommend Lobo Gunleather. Ray made me a Threeperson's design basketweave for my 6" K22. It's perfect.

I bought two holsters from forum member Newfyman for my model 17's. One is just a regular holster and the other is a flap holster. He has a friend that makes them at very reasonable prices, and can do decorative work if you want. My two are just plain undyed leather with a fleece lining that is very soft. They fit my needs perfectly. If they sound interesting I can take a couple pictures and post them for you.

I have an Uncle Mike'S "Sidekick" Size 3 that fitted a 6" Model 17 perfectly, but I am not sure if I would recommend it for a blued gun? The lining is indeed somewhat non-smooth. Rough on the other hand would be a big word to use.
The now-gone 617 was quite a tight fit, too tight actually, and the holster roughened the polish where it fitted the tightest. (especially the end of the barrel)
I hardly used it anyway, as it is not allowed to wear guns in a holster here, these days not even in the shooting-society's cantina...

Spend money on a lined leather product. You are putting a multi-hundred dollar revolver in a twenty dollar plastic or fabric container?
I put mine in a 1930 Austin from El Paso Saddlery. FWIW.
