I know I have read this somewhere before but my '80 vintage model 17 has become very hard to extract casings after firing. The rod appears to be straight. I have tried to clean it out but sometimes I have to tap on something to extract the casings. I shoot LR's only and it is apparent on all brands of ammo. Help..

Many times, the charge holes have burrs on the edges that need deburring. I bought a 17-4 just recently. Fired cases were very hard to jolt loose. So, I took some 600 grit paper wrapped around a cone shapped wooden dowel (much like a sharpened pencil) that would fit into the chambers slightly but would only take the burrs off the edges. That was all it took. You don't need anything more than doing this by hand....dremels are NOT needed for this job. Now, fired cases extract very easily.

Not uncommon. A drill motor with a short piece of cleaning rod with a (bronze) 22 rifle bore brush and your favorite solvent for cleaning the chambers. Without the drill motor you're polishing the crud in the chambers, not removeing it.
