I see all kinds of post on Mod 19s. ( 19-1. 19-2. 19-3 etc )
I have a Model 19-5 2 1/2 inch bbl 357 magnum round butt
ABN17XX is it an old ball or just one no one talks about
It's a beauty, action is smooth as silk, adj sights, ramp front
Trigger is smooth not groved
I am a dummy can't figure out how upload a pic :((

The main difference is that is not P&R.

For pictures first join Photobucket (or similar service). Load you photos there first. Then copy and paste onto the Forum.

The -5 was the first post pinned and recessed era Model 19, beginning between '80 and '82.

There is a bit of a bias around here for pinned and recessed revolvers and their (debatable) connection to a (maybe) better bygone day of craftsmanship at S&W. That's why you see the no-dash through -4 19s get talked about more.

From a functional perspective, the pinned barrel and recessed charge holes are incidental and unneeded.

Your 19-5 is every bit the revolver its older brothers are. :)

Tks for the info at least now I know, had me wondering there for a while
The 19 is sweet had a K-38 2in bbl at one time it was nice but the 19 is same size but can use the hotter rds, and I like the rounded butt

The 4" nickel and 6" blue are both S&W 19-5 models. They were dirt cheap 3 1/2 years ago. In fact, the blue one was full of potting soil, or mulch. it cleaned up nice. I let another forum member take them, as I was afraid of the barrels unscrewing and falling off.

My 2 1/2" M19 is a -3, but I wouldn't kick any 19 out of the safe. It's just a neat-looking gun. I had mine at the range last weekend, and the seen-it-all counter guys couldn't resist taking a good, close look.

I choose P&R guns first due to they are getting harder to find and have a better value for the most part but it is not a deal breaker for me.

I have 2 and 3 inch k frames and the 3 inch guns usually will reliably eject all the spent cases but the 2 inch revolvers are not always able to eject all the cases. Do the 2 1/2 inch models typically eject all the cases like the 3 inch guns ?

Nope. The ejector rod isn't long enough to clear the brass. Which is why all my guns are 3", instead of 2.5.

The 2.5" barrel's ejector rod will dump .38s fine and are shy for .357, but good ejection technique and proper cleaning make this a near non-issue.
