I keep going back to the shop and looking at this gun. Shows very little signs of wear, has rubberized grips that don't have the Smith & Wesson logo, but the owner says about that time the company went to rubberized grips, so they might be factory grips. Or not. Kind of a moot point as I could always to back to wood with a T-grip. He seems rather stuck on $440. He will take my well used Glock 26 and $175.

Would appreciate any comments.

I would not give him the Glock and $175. I would offer him cash and see what he does. You could easily sell your Glock for $400.

Armybass, thanks for the "plan." Frankly I didn't study up on what the G26 was worth. If you were doing this, what would your cash offer be for the 19-7?

Hey Chiefs Special. What model gun is it? What barrel size? Is it a Target?

If it's pinned and recessed, with target sights, hammer and trigger, it is worth $100 more than if it does not have these little gems.

Just for the hell of it, offer him $350.00 if he refuses, go up to $375 and if he won't take it forget it. At $440 he'll be looking at it for a long time.

Well, it's a blue steel 19-7 with a 4"barrel and it has adjustable sights - don't know if that qualifies them as "target sights" or not. And I'm too new to the technical side of S&W revolvers to know what "pinned and recessed" means. The trigger has hardly any creep, is silky smooth, and seems to require about 3.5 lbs. in SA. Between front and rear sights the finish on barrel and frame is not shiny blue, but a flat, non-reflective finish.

Yeah, I too was thinking about an initial offer of $350 and on up to $375, perhaps ten bucks more.

OK....... look and see if there is a pin going through the top strap at the back of thhe barrel.Thats "pinned". Next, open the cylinder and look at the back side of it. If the bullets fit flush with the cylinder, thats "recessed". The adjustable sights qualifies it as target (sights). I am in Phoenix, and I know what guns are selling for. That gun is worth what he is asking. If you get it for $350 or $375, add at least $100 for it being a pinned and recessed Target model 19-7. It will be to your advantage.

I am gonig to the pawn shop and get a 6 inch 19-4 tomorrow for $345. It is a target so I figue it's worth $450........good luck

The 19-7 was made from 1994-1998. Since S&W quit pinning barrels and recessing cylinders circa 1982, that would be a rare bird indeed. Also, all 19's (with a few very rare exceptions) have adjustable sights.

My guesstimate is the $375 out the door is about right ($400 if you really want your first 19). I wouldn't pay over that, but I have a few 19's, so I'm getting picky. In 3 years you won't remember the extra $25 or $50 you paid for a no-lock 19.

I did pay more than $375 for my 19-7, but it's a special case.

I lkove this forum. I guess HOOT told me a thing I did not know...............Thanks hoot.

Thanks for the info hoot. I am out of town and do not have my S&W book handy. 4 years is a short time span for the 19-7.

IMHO, the 19-7 PC is one of the "must haves" of the S&W line.

I was fortunate to be at the local pusher's when one was being picked up after the waiting period and the new owner allowed me an inspection.

You can hold a pistol and feel the quality - this is one such pistol.

mulehide9, aminalmother, you're welcome! I was fortunate enough to pick up a copy of The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson and it's a treasure trove of S&W information.

I've seen examples of the 19-7 with two types of grips, these (Uncle Mike's) and the Pachmayr compact no finger-grove style. From what I've heard, either is correct.

Snapping Twig, I agree. I've got -3, -4, and -5, and none of them feel quite like the PC -7. Almost, but not quite. The 19 is my all-time favorite K frame.

Yea Hoot.........I am with you. I love the feel of 19's. I bought a 6 inch 66-2 and it is nice and pretty but it ain't a 19. I also like the 15's.

For what its worth, I paid $550 for a 19-7 K Comp 2 weeks ago. It does indeed have a feel like no other revolver I've handled. It brings my meager Smith collection up to seven.I figure the odds of coming across that K Comp as I did were likely equal to being hit by lightening.

Incredible pic, anguslincoln! I just made it the backgroud on my monitor. I plan to take some pics of my 19-7 tomorrow. I hope mine come out as nice as yours.

I wish I could find one of these in nice condition for anywhere near 550.00. I would own it in a NY minute.

That is indeed a heck of a fine photograph. I don't know whether it's the lighting, but the blue looks almost like a slight matte rather than the shiny blue I would expect. Is it merely the lighting?

Again, a compelling photograph.

Thanks CS, I do enjoy taking pictures of any firearm. Much of their beauty is in the details. I can offer a couple more of the K Comp. The finish seems to be similar to my 17-8 which is a bead blasted blue. Both the K Comp and 17-8 were made in the same year. Maybe it was a popular finish at the time.
