It's a personal thing, so my preference for an N frame shouldn't stand in your way if you want a K frame.
If you buy one, you will surely (eventually) buy the other. Why? Because one is a nearly perfect carry platform for the .357 cartridge, and the other is, arguably, the finest shooting platform for the same.
Give up now. Save time. Buy both and see what I mean.

For carrying the 19. For the range and hunting the 27. There is a difference in weight & portability. The 27 should stand up longer to very heavey loads etc. Both are fine!

Sir, "best" is relative--"best" for what?
The 19 is best for:
* Short fingers/small hands
* Lugging around all day
* Long overall cartridge lengths
* Easy concealment
* Price to acquire
The 27 is best for:
* Medium and larger hands/fingers
* Durability/longevity with hot loads
* Recoil dampening weight
Decide what you want out of the gun and go from there.

Just to be a trouble maker, consider a L frame such as 686 or 586. More rugged than a 19 and easier to carry than a 27.

One -and only one-? the 27. However, the opening sentence "For my next S&W..." suggests that there will be both and others to follow.

In .38/.357 never owned an N frame I held onto for very long. I'm not small handed or petite, but I find the N frame overly large for anything but shooting the stoutest loads all day long, and even then, with its higher bore to hand I find it recoils a lot.
Some have suggested the 586/686--a good choice though I find it, again, bigger and heavier than necessary for most of my shooting, which is .38s, target and +P.
To put it another way, the Model 19 or even the Model 15 are for gentlemen and ladies of refined taste and good breeding--or not so fine tastes or breeding either.

I have the 627, but immediately fell in love with the 19 too. My friend's 6" 19 was every bit as accurate with a trigger every bit as good as my 627.
What's not to like about either model? I vote for BOTH.

If you are going to feed it a steady diet of 125GR magnums or reloads then get the 27. If you are going to shoot it with 158GRs or .38s then get the 19. I like the 19 better because of it's feel and balance. I have been told that the 19's and 66's forcing cones don't like the hot stuff.

Personally, I like the 19. In fact, I've been looking for an older 19 snubbie for a long time. There are issues with the forcing cone regarding the K frames continually using less than 158 grain bullets in a hot magnum load. My opinion is anyone who shoots paper or tin cans with a .357 magnum load is nuts. The .38 special non +P will put a hole in paper and a tin can very easily. You also might want to look at the Model 66. It's stainless and damn near identical to the 19. The 66-1 snubbie is one of my favorite Smith's.
The poll is surprising - nearly two to one in favor of the 27, when I looked.
I would always want a 19, but if you haven't got a lot of experience with S&Ws, and you do plan to shoot it a lot with 357s, buy a 586 / 686, or a 27, and leave the 19s for those of us in the over-the-hill gang.

I carried a 19-5, 2 1/2in. today. Now it sits next to me with its Laser grips on it.
For my NEXT gun, anytime, a model 27 would win, every time.
The 27, or, The 357 Magnum, is the quintessential small bore magnum revolver.
I dig every Combat Magnum I own. From the C.M. of 1957,, to the 66-5.
But without exception ,N frames rule.
The cats meowing about their L frames, I'm inclined to say,, just don't get the question.
We're talking N frames and K frames here. Not 1980s' Bangor Punta L frames.
Acquire, accumulate, buy, trade for, inherit, Borrow, or beg any N frame you can. If you don't appreciate it now, , you will , just give it time
