Hello group.

I have a Model 19-3 with the S&W logo on the right side and some 19-5s with the logo on the left side. I'm interested in finding out what year that change was made. I checked on Wikipedia and that change wasn't stated in the model changes.

Thank you for the help.

My 66-2 snubbie has the logo on the left side. My buddy's 66 no dash logo is on the side plate (right side) Not sure why they moved them. Bob

Now I could be wrong (and probably am) but I thought that the switch from side plate to the left hand side occurred in 1982 or 1984 I can't remember which year.

It was moved to the left in the 2nd half of 1981 (so '82), around the same time they did away with the pinned barrel.
Started out with the small 'j-frame' trademark on the left but that was quickly replaced a year later by the larger one found on all but the earliest 19-5's.
