In my LGS today, I handled a 6" barrel 629 with full underlug: talk about overly heavy! On another thread, there was a photo posted of a Heavy Duty converted to .44 Spl. And I thought, why not this gun in .44 Mag? Fixed sights, steel frame, square butt, 4"&5" pencil barrel, a gun that would lend itself to carry more than the HB 29/629 and the freakish Scandium 329. As bluing is almost non-existent, I'd take a matte stainless finish, but that old-time flat service bluing would be icing on the cake.

Alan,
I'd gamble that mostly Spl. would be fired on a routine basis out of that configuration. Many will argue that a warm Spl and a heavy hard cast bullet will handle most needed chores. Still would be nice for magnum capabilities when needed.

If you look at the new Classic M 21 in the SCSW it shows a picture of a gun with the shorter Spl. cylinder. My 21 TR has the longer magnum cylinder so basically it has already been made except for chambering. The round butt and tapered barrel make for a very nice handling piece.

Mike, I knew you would answer. How you doing after the Red Sox win? I have one message for the Cards: Welcome to AL East baseball. Boston, NY, Baltimore, Tampa... there are playoff caliber games almost daily: pressure becomes routine.

I have that Model 21 you speak of, just with the larger 'nickel' front sight. It's similar to the old 21, yet it lacks a certain quality. Hard to describe, it's just not a real 21. Probably the RB makes me want to like it only a little. I hide the butt under Pach SB grippers. (Just bought a 686 Plus 3" bbl. Even with RB Pachs, it is a challenge. Feels MUCH better with the SB UM rubbers.) The pencil barrel on the 21 is cool, though.

You're correct, though, my 'dream' actually exists in the modern 21, as it has the Mag length cylinder. So it should be easy for them to make! I know how to live with the RB. I'm just so tired of 3 lb+ Magnum revolvers, you have no idea.

Great to hear from you, Mike. Stay in touch and stay safe.
