Saw a S&W Model 242 in the LGS today. Was in Like New condition and in the box. It is an AirLite Ti. Trigger pull was very decent. What is a good realistic price for one of these. Nice piece.

I see mint ones brings close to a grand sometimes. A lot of them with some wear brim around 600-700. I think they are one of the best S&Ws made in the last 20 years.

I have two of them bought about four years ago for 700 and 750.

Both with box and very little wear.

So loyaljeeper's prices sound about right to me.

242

L frame yet lightweight...something around 19 oz empty although it's size makes more of a belt carry unless u have big pants pockets or a perhaps for coat pocket

Easier to hit target accurately with this than a lightweight J frame for ur average handgun enthusiast

7 round capacity

Nice carry companion piece to a 686 plus for home defense with shared speedloaders

Only produced for one year so not a ton of them out there

Probably didn't have the sales appeal necessary to stay in production due to cost and also due to size limitations on pocket carry

I agree with the above stated price ranges

I like the feel of it in my hand. I was figuring a coat pocket carry piece. I have a 342 that I carry when I feel the need, so not sure why I need/want it other than the fact I don't have one. One fact is that the double action trigger pull is much better than my 342.

As if u need some encouragement...i do find the 242 enjoyable at the range

Just as comfortable and enjoyable as a G43 or P365 and more so than a 442 or lighter J frame IMO
