Hi All.
I was looking at a 27-2 today for sale. good shape, target trigger, hammer, patridge front sight. Measured twice, 7 inch barrel. Cant find any information on 7 inch barrel. looks factory, not cut or anything. Any insight would be appreciated. Oh, and its $599
no pics since its in LGS.
thanks

That is not a factory offered barrel length. Odds are it is a shortened barrel

You want to compare the roll marks on that barrel with the location of the roll marks on an 8 3/8" factory original firearm, that should confirm that this is a cut down barrel

Why wouldn't the LGS let you take cell phone pictures of it?

For $599 in good condition, I would be a buyer

No reason to cut a 8 3/8 to a 7… what's the problem with snapping a pic of it? The store has video of you looking at the gun most likely… take a 6 1/2 pencil or cut dowel with you and drop it dow the barrel.

Did you measure from the cylinder front face to the muzzle or the front of the frame? An 8-3/8" barrel would be about 7 inches from the front of the frame. For the price, I guess it might be an altered barrel. Did you happen to get the SN?

Unless it is a special order, the Patridge usually came on a 6" barrel, and 3-1/2, 4, 5 and 8-3/8 was a Baughman ramp. The 3T's could be special order, but from 1975 to 1980 all M27-2's were 3T

At a price of $599, the originality of the barrel becomes immaterial. If it is mechanically good, it would be a good purchase. As far as the barrel is concerned, 7 inches was not a standard factory barrel length for the 27-2, so it could be this barrel was shortened, replaced, or was custom ordered.

My only 7" 27-2...

Per Roy Jinks, it shipped with a 5" barrel. Although the engraver was talented, I don't think he could have lengthened a 5" barrel. :D Rather, I would expect that an 8 3/8" barrel was expertly shortened and the front sight nicely re-attached...

🤤

You did it again.

Adios,
