That's a beauty!

The Patridge is not unusual. You see them both ways on the 6" units, but it seems to me the Patridge is more common (not scientific, just my observation).

In any case, that one is as nice as they come. Congrats!

Your 27-2 should have been shipped with a mahogany presentation case and target stocks made of Goncalo alves as it was made after the upgrade to this model in September 1975. It has the target hammer and trigger. I suspect the blue box and Magna stocks are not original to the 27-2. However, it is still a very nice example.

One of my m28's has those same grips. My new m58 had them but I purchased the s&w combat finger groove grips from the s&w store.

Doc, I appreciate the information, I did get a set of N Frame targets when I bought it so I'm thinking the original mahogany presentation case was long gone(or otherwise unavailable) at the time of purchase.

I'm going to try to make this one as correct as possible so off to the classifieds :)

Thanks again,

Kobsw

Beautiful revolver kobsw!
Besides the correct info Bill has told you, the Modified Magnas or "plain clothes" PC Magnas are the style use for fixed sight Model 58 or 520 only.

VM, Roger that, N Frame Magnas are not available on the Model 27's of this timeframe.

Fortunately, I did receive a nice pair of N Frame relieved Target Stocks with the gun so it looks like I may only need the presentation case to make this correct for the time period.

Thanks for the info,

Kobsw

Added Pics here and to the original post of the Targets that came with the gun, would these be the correct type and vintage?

Thanks for all the help,

Kobsw

I recently picked up a nice example Model 27-2 with a Patridge Front Sight. It's a 6" P and R ca 1978-79.

Best Regards,

Kobsw

Congrats! Beautiful package and nicely photographed.

I too love the Model 27 and it pre-model number .357 Magnum ancestors. My S&WCA Membership number (2027), was determined by when I applied for membership. But it was a fantastic coincidental indicator of my passion for the Model 27 that continues to drive my collecting passions today. They are some of the finest handguns ever produced.:)

Thanks for sharing,

I believe those are the appropriate target grips for your revolver. The diamond grips ended in the late 60s if I remember correctly. The "speedloader" cut target grips started making their way around 1980 or 81. Though as everyone likes to say S&W never wasted anything so sometimes parts/specs come out after the traditional production run dates.

A definite improvement in appearance over the Magnas. :)

And correct for the gun.

Yes. That's about right for the N frames. On the K frame, they showed up a couple years earlier.

Very beautiful gun...I have a pre-27 made in 1952 that is an excellent shooter...

You didn't say if the Magna grips on the gun were numbered to the gun...

Could you please also post a good picture of the label...
