A friend of mine has a Model 27-2 that is nickel plated, 5" barrel, appears unfired, overall condition is mint. I have seen the weapon and it appears to be brand new. The exterior of the wood presentation case is in good to excellent condition with some visible scratches. The interior is in very good condition. The serial number is N4216XX. He has the original documentation, screwdriver and bore mop. He does not have the original bore brush.

He is telling me that the fair market value on this gun is about $1500. I think that price sounds a bit high.

Your opinions please!

Too high. I bought a near-NIB 5" 27-2 (blue) with tools, papers, and mint presentation case for $699 recently.

And that was here in California.

Sounds High to me, I bought a blue 5" off a friend for $500 and it is mint, now on the other hand I paid $150 for a brand new old stock presentation box, $20 for the papers, and $45 for the tools, so a little over $700 I have in the whole package. Just my 2 cents.

He is too high, but who knows? Someone may come along and pay that much. Maybe he set the price high so that he could negotiate down.

Some people prefer nickel over blue and will pay a premium for it. The 5" barrel seems to have a following right now, so that is a plus. Presentation box, papers, and tools have to add at least $100. Appearing unfired and brand new is a big, big plus. People often throw these terms around loosely, but you have confirmed the condition with your own eyes.

My guesstimate would be $900 to $1000. This assumes that "mint" means "Like New", NOT "near-New", and that the buyer is like me and would pay more to get the whole package that came with the gun rather than spend the time and gas going around looking for all the accoutrements one at a time.

He will not sell it in a hurry at $1500. You can always make an offer and be prepared to walk away.

It's only worth what it's worth to you. As others have said, they can be found much cheaper with not much effort.

I've known guys who got a bug up their keester for a particular gun that, at the time for some reason, was "difficult" to get (re: the Dirty Harry 29 craze of the 70's) and they paid an exhorbitant price to get theirs. Years down the road, many of them just can't accept the fact they got hosed; they don't have any use for the gun and would love to dump it, but they can't get past wanting big bucks for their impulsive urge to "have it now" when what they paid was severely over priced.

I ususally just comment that "yeah, that's a nice one" and take a pass and look for one more reasonably priced. No sense in pissing on their leg by telling them the kind of things gun show wanna-bes are heard to relate like "I can buy 'em all day long for $XXX" or offering them some rediculous low-ball figure. Human nature and pride get involved, and sooner or later they'll have to acknowledge they just can't get that much out of it. Those guys usually trade it off on something expensive and then lie about how much they got out of it on the trade to salve their egos.

Seen it a hunnert times . . . .

Too damn high. I'd ask him where he came up with that one. Saw one at a gun show last month exactly as you described except the condition was closer to 95%. Wood box and all, he carried it around the show all day and finally took $650 for it. I had offered him six.

Well , the market price for ANY Gun has gone
up this month , but that's still way high

like the guys that paid 5-6-700 for a Dirty Harry 29 in early 70's... buying with early 70's dollars that is. thats about 2300-2500 todays dollars. ouch. were not talking 5 inch nickle pre 29's here.

i usually just tell people werew too far apart in our pricing, when it comes to used pieces.

I'm immediately in the market for a few new production, readily avialable CA legal hi cap bottom feeders of various cals (glock/sig). and the price difference bewteen local shops for the exact same thing (no nite sites etc) can be almost $150 on Glocks and $250 on Sigs. sorry havnt priced S&Ws lately as im not interested in anything new of theirs except the no lock 442 and havent seen one of those locally
