This auction's over, so I can post the link to it here now.

I watched the auction...didn't bid. Just wanted to see how high it went.

What do you think? Would you have gone this high?

Out of my league :)

Out of mine, too.

Although the 28-2 is one of my all time favorite revolvers, the bidding on that one would have left me in the dust.

I'm sure they're out there, but this is the first NIB 28-2 I can recall seeing go up for sale.

No way. I'm a thrifty shopper and would wait for a used, not in box gun at an unusually low price.

WOW!!!!!!!!

And to think I grabbed a nice 4" 28 figuring I would never get a 31/2" 27.... too much Scottish blood...LOL OK..... I'm cheap!!!

Course the NIB really helps.....most of these were made and bought as heavy duty work guns...... maybe a few folks decided to save a few bucks ....and opted for a Model 28........which is how I think mine has spent most of it's 50 years.

Question..... how "rare" are 4" 28s?????
Fewer maybe; but rare as advertised????

Certainly not what I would have expected out of an 28-2. maybe could have seen it for a NIB pre-model #, but to my mind even that would have been a generous stretch.

I looked at that one as well during the auction, very nice S-serial that has been shot some, so definitely not NIB.

My LGS has, on consignment, a MINT 28-2. I don;t know if it is NIB, but it is as close to perfect as you can get. Not a mar, ding or scratch on it.

Asking price is $1,000.

I was like, it is a little high. They agreed it was high but thought they's get it.

Now, I am not so sure it is high.

I do not know if it has Box or papers.

I already have a 28-2 that I shoot, so I will not be buying another.

If anyone is interested in the name of the LGS, IM me. They'll send you pics in all probability.

Nice dingbats on that one.

Let us assume they are not making any more revolvers such as that.

Sure makes me feel good about paying $525 OTD for my 28-2 a year ago!!

But, mine being an N-prefix and a 6" does keep things a bit more real I suppose...

Not that the 28-2 in the auction wasn't nice or anything, but daggum!! For $1800, I can think of about a half dozen other old Smith's I would rather have that typically go for a similar price, if not less!

Not only is that outta my league, I'm not sure I even live in the same universe! WOW. Sure makes me enjoy the 28-2s I currently own. Think I'll go shoot a few hundred rounds from one of the 4"ers.

Bought two model 28s from a big gun store on RT 9 a lil after Y2K 01 or 02. Paid well under $300 each. Regretfully sold one to a boss. Wish I'd taken out a loan and bought all the budget revolvers there. Some real great deals never thought prices would go up like that back then. Had Dan Wesson 357 (model 15?) fixed sight guns sub $200 and High Standard Sentinels (Dan Wesson clone) .357s Barely over $100. Whodda thought you'd ever hear a 39 year talk about "the good ol days."

A LGS here had one, basically NIB for $950. They would not come off the price and it stayed there for close to a year. It finally was sold, but I am not sure whether or not the reduced it to sell it. This was about a year ago.
