I finally got a chance to get to my favorite LGS in Kelso, WA and pick up a M29-2 I've had on hold for quite a while. It's 83/8 Nickle and SN 7031XX puts it in 1980. Odd thing about it is the wood presentation case. It has metal corner re-enforcing, double latches, and is lined in a maroon velvet. The bottom interior of the box has the last three numbers of the serial number written in. It's in great shape and doesn't appear to have been shot much. Here are a few pics.

Beautiful! This is one on my wish list.

I assume they are the original grips...combats?

Your 29-2 is a fine looking gun and I am certain that you are going to enjoy it for years to come. The presentation case has had the corner pieces added and the velvet lining isn’t original. The box for the 83/8 barreled guns did come with two latches. The interior lining can be returned to factory original by forum member Joe Cebull. The grips are smooth goncalo alves presentation grips that were likely added by a previous owner and will bring a handsome price by themselves.

You should not hold on to it with the wrong box and terrible lining...then the slippery grip...PM me.

Thanks fro the positive comments. I'm really looking forward to shooting this on. Reminds me of my first Smith & Wesson purchase as a young 21 year old, a Model 57 Nickle 83/8. Foolishly traded that one away. May find another, one of these days:)

Man, I wish I knew of a place where a 4” mod.29 would follow me home. Guess I’m looking in the wrong places! Beautiful 29 by the way.

You just never know! This 29-2 followed me home at the end of April gun show. Made a trade for it. 1971 ship date. Fired very little. Factory nickel very good+. Bob

Boy!! That shiny long tube 29-2 sitting in that velvet really looks sweet. That one would follow me home too if I saw it and had the cash. Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time, other times the bear eats you (or me).

My 29-2 6 inch also is in the original wooden case with unopened tools. 1980 was one of the few years that the gun pointed to the right instead of most presentation cases with gun pointing to the left. My case has only one clasp, but the two clasp was maybe necessary for the longer tube of the OP's.

My blue flocking was long gone (turns to dust over the years) and I have seen Joe Cebulls work and beautiful examples of his reflocking skills/talent. But Joe will tell you that it will still be a re flocking, thus no longer original, which may bother some down the road.

I'm saving my money to get my case eventually to Joe for him to perform his craftsmanship magic on.

You got a fine one OP and let us know how she does at the range. With mine, I can only do maybe 12 rounds of full house maggies before I have to switch to 44 Special cowboy loads. These 29-2's are a real "wrist torquer" (my word...don't think it's in any dictionary).

M29-2 Followed Me Home

This four-inch M29-2 Nickle followed me home a few months ago along with it's M29-3 six-inch brother. I'm blessed to be able to afford such a "stable".

they sure aren't getting any cheaper are they.

I wasn't even looking, got an email and this was offered to me in March at nearly 1/3 current market value. Couldn't say no.;)
