Can anyone provide an appraisal for a Model 29 .44 Magnum - 8" circa 1983?

What condition? What dash? Any other info or pictures if possible.

Most 6.5" M29's are in the $1,000 range now. I think the 8" are a little less popular. Lotta ifs and whats though.

So the more info the more accurate a guess. Most recommend to go to gunbrokers.com and do a search there for a ball park figure.

a 1983 gun? With a long tube?
-grips?
-presentation case?
-Box
-tools
-condition?
-blue or nickle?

All of these affect price. Post pictures please?

Circa 1983 would have to be a -3.

As posted above, condition and/or accessories have a big effect on the value.

I traded it for a new Beretta FS92-M9A1 - I'm wondering if I sold myself short. Either way, as much fun as the 29 was to shoot (and expensive), I believe the Beretta is more functional and practical.
Thanks for the input gents!

Wow, you sure came out on the wrong end of that deal. ;)

You can get M9A1s for around $625-650 new and depending on the condition, you could have gotten a bit more than that for your 29-3. But, there is nothing wrong with the Beretta; I have a M9 and shoot the heck out of it.

But it's nothing like shooting a quality wheel gun like that 29 either. The trick to shooting a 44 Mag is reloading to keep costs down.

That was a nice trade for the other guy. I would never mention it again:-). You could have done worse, but you should ask the questions before you make the trade. Live and learn. Good luck with the Berretta.

I have sold firearms to friends for way too cheap, but I never regretted it because, well, I generally like my friends. As far as selling short otherwise, I've done that too. Win some, lose some. If you factor in the cost of ammo, the deal looks better. Right now, 9x19 must be one of the cheapest centerfire rounds you can get. If you don't reload, .44 Magnum can be pretty pricey, and .44 Special really isn't any cheaper. Getting into reloading just to save money will take a long while to recoup your investment unless you shoot a LOT. Besides, around here, pistol powder is still pretty hard to come by. I'm sure you will enjoy your Beretta. It's also a beautiful handgun with an interesting pedigree.

Don't get me wrong, I miss handling the .44 and the power behind it. The swap was with a friend and the first time we went shooting together, he was quite excited with it and asked if I would consider selling. After the swap, he stipulated that if ever I would reconsider and want the .44 back, no questions asked. That kind of integrity in a friend is priceless. The Beretta is a blast to shoot and as mentioned, economical. Thanks gents. All the best!!

I traded the other way gave my 92fs police model and my HK USP 9mm for a 29-2 in nickel.......I at first regretted it but with some intervention and counseling from the fine folks here I got over letting those guns go. I can always get others like my old 9mms but the older wheel guns are getting harder to find. But it only matters if you are content with the trade. It took me some time to feel good about my grade, but if you are good with it nothing else matters.

So he actually borrowed it and left you a deposit:D If you feel like you have the gun you need more you did fine:cool:. The value of the 29 is higher, probably, unless it was a real dog/rustbucket. Good friends are more inportant than a firearm anyways. Theo

I recently went in the other direction.
I sold a 9MM M&Pc and bought a Model 29-3 with the money (my first .44 magnum).

My new old 29-3:

It IS a handsome weapon, is it not? I remember visiting the 'Bullet Hole' in Kansas City. After the first few rounds, some of the other shooters at the other stalls stepped back and long-necked towards our direction. That was the first time I had shot the 29 in approx. 20 yrs. Powerful!!! and somewhat amusing at the 'local' reaction. The older gent in the adjoining stall was shooting a .380 and 9mm and asked to try the 29. After about 4 rounds he said "WHOA!!" and you could discern the gratification on his face. Some called it a 'ballistic orgasm".
All the best gents!!!

Just sold a 29-2 8 3/8" NIB w/presentation box and all tools for 1K, if only it had been a 6 or 6 1/2".
