I have a question about Model 29 grips. I have two that have standard relieved target grips that are not of the coke bottle design. One is a pre-29 from 1957 and one is a Model 29 from 1960.

Did these style of grips come with the guns, or did all early model 29's have coke bottle grips?

All 44 Magnums had Special Oversize Stocks made of Goncalo alves (coke bottle stocks) until being phased out in favor of diamond target stocks made of Goncalo alves beginning in 1966. I have seen a couple of invoices where Magna stocks were specified, and smooth targets were specified. I doubt that diamond targets made of walnut would have been ordered in 1957 and 1960 and these stocks are most likely replacements for the originals.
