Hi folks, still chipping away at my 44 New Frontier. I got a new exractor star, made a new hand and hand spring and now trying to get the trigger to pull fully rearward to drop the hammer. The hand advances he cylinder (new hand spring was made from a piece of the same auto hose clamp I used to compress the trigger bow) works perfectly but the trigger pulls about 98% of the way and stops. Is it possible that the hand is hitting the top of the window? Action works perfectly with the barrel open. Hand is .032" taller than the original. (Old hand was seriously worn) Can I remove some of the window slot at the top to see if that's the probem? My bore scope shows the hand perfectly engaged with the ratchet and moving until trigger pull ceases rearward travel.

Steve, I wouldn't bother removing metal from the window slot. The hand may be hitting the top of the slot which tells me a dimension of the hand is wrong. The revolver left the factory working and it is infinitely easier to adjust the hand rather than mess with the frame slot.

Without watching the action working, I can only guess. I'll guess that the cylinder locks in battery before the trigger moves the hammer far enough to drop in the double action mode. I suspect the gun also locks up in single action before the hammer reaches full cock.

If the above is true, then the hand is attempting to turn the cylinder when the cylinder has already reached the locking point. The hand is attached to the trigger which is also linked to the hammer by the front sear (DA sear).

Tolerances in the mechanism need to be maintained for the gun to time correctly. I believe the hand may be too long or the extractor star slightly oversize or both. This is only a guess as I can't see the mechanism.

Hi There,

I would Not enlarge the hand window. I recommend you work
on the hand. If you screw it up, you can make a new one. On
the other hand, if you screw up enlarging the hand window,
you will have a lot of problems.

Cheers!
Webb
