I have been collecting revolvers for a little while now. I am thinking about starting to collect some 32 longs. Thoughts on value? How can i see if it's a good deal or not... what kind of market is there for them? Any information would be welcomed.

I just bought a minty 3 1/4" 32 Long Reg. Police from the 20's. $895. I have no idea of this was a good price. Just needed it to fill a hole in my collection. The prices will go up substantially if you get into the K32 series. Big Larry

Welcome to the forum!

It all depends on what vintage (1896 thru 1990) and what condition you want to collect! I frame Model 30s are I frames and pre model 30s are from the 1950s. Collectible condition guns with box, paperwork and tools are going to cost close to $1000. Shooting condition, no box, etc., closer to $500.

Model 30-1 made on the J frame from 1960 to 1990 are usually less and not as collectible. These .32 long small frames are more popular now than anytime in the past as more people begin to appreciate them.

Shop around and monitor the on-line auctions for sold .32s and you'll soon get a handle on condition/value, barrel lengths, grip shapes, etc.

Warning: beware, they are habit forming!

There was a Model 30 at my LGS this morning, very nice condition, no box or papers, tagged at $399.99.

USED - Smith & Wesson 30 GTO370028

I was sort of tempted but I had just bought a Hand Ejector, Third Model from the early 20's that I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about (An "I" frame, 32 with a 3 1/4" barrel, but refinished and the wrong grips) for $325.00 about a month or so ago.

I had no interest in 32's at all before that. Now I'm close to being a disciple. They are addictive.

Lots of 32 love here on the forum. You should be able to find a decent model 30 for around $600-750. I would check local gun shows before going online. Online prices seem to have gotten to where you cant find one under $800. The last two 32 HEs (pre model 30) that I bought averaged $700.
