I stumbled across this on Gunbroker and I am somewhat tempted to try it. It looks like it’s been through heck in terms of finish, but it also looks like a Model 31? I’m guessing 1920s vintage based on the ejector rod and four screws.
Questions: if it’s mechanically sound, could/should this be an occasional carry gun?
What does parts availability look like?
If it’s as old, as I think it is, it would be before some of the more modern safeties – is this still at least relatively drop safe?
Would this carry well in a J frame Holster?

If it’s 1920s vintage, it can’t be a Model 31 as model numbers didn’t come along for another 30 years. More identifying data (and pictures, of course!) would really help. If it’s a ‘20s vintage RP (square butt) it won’t have the post War drop safety feature (obviously) but honestly I’d be more concerned with the old steel than the trigger block. Those parts are nearly 100 years old, so you can’t find many on the shelf… I had to buy a “parts kit” from one of the gun breakers so I could get the major spares I needed. 🧐
I don’t want to sound discouraging, but this sounds a little more complex a question than you seem to think. 🤔

Yeah I looked at that one, but I already have one. It's a S&W Hand Ejector model 1903 maybe 2nd or 3rd change in 32 S&W Long, blued, hard rubber grips 3 1/4" barrel. I got a beater like that on GB, but honestly, yours has had a very rough life. :ROFLMAO:

EDIT: It is a 5 screw model as you can see the strain screw on the front of the trigger guard. IIRC all pre WWII HE's were 5 screw.

Except for the very early 4 screw ones that didn't have a screw in front of the trigger guard.
