Model 325 Nightguard

Nice piece. Lightweight, rugged, good sights. Yes, it's cut for moonclips, uses the same ones as the M25 and M625 series guns.

I had one for a short time.
I hated the fact it needed a cheesy metal clip to keep the flame from cutting into the top-strap.

I have "heard", but never seen, cases where the clip came loose.

You can see it just above the forcing cone and barrel/cylinder gap:

I dont know anyone who has had problems with their cheesy metal protectors. The cheesy metal protector on my 325PD is working fine for the current owner.

I bought the 'extra length cylinder' version of the 325NG - better known as the Governor. It weighs an ounce and a half or so more and is a bit longer due to that l-o-n-g cylinder, but shares the Al/Sc frame, Tritium Night Sight front/fixed rear sight, moonclipped .45 ACP usage,Melonite finish, etc. It also has no steel sheet metal b/c gap deflector, perhaps due to it's thick topstrap. It also has a ball detent yoke lockup, a la PC Shop revolvers. Did I mention it was over three hundred buck$ cheaper than the 325NG?

Yeah, it chambers a few other calibers in addition to the .45 ACP. It also will mount the .500 Magnum grips for enhanced recoil control. I bought it mainly due to the moonclipped .45 ACP usage...

I've owned one...

...for about two years now. While its no longer my primary carry revolver, it is in the rotation.

I like the fact that the moon clips are faster to reload than speedloaders or strips. It's lightweight, but doesn't have excessive recoil. I carry it in a Don Hume J.I.T. Slide holster. I just added a set of Ahrends combats.

I came up with a load that has a 250gr LSWC in the ACP case, and I also carry a couple of moonclips with standard 230gr hardball.

I don't look at it from an esthetics perspective. It's a working gun.

The stainless blast guard is held on by the front screw of the rear sight. As long as that screw is kept tight, there should never be a problem.

This 325PD has been my carry gun for over 6 1/2 years and never given me any reason to not trust it.

Pretty good shooter too...

JoeHatley, what kind of grips are those? They look great and as if they would fill your hand really well.

I have a Nightguard 315 .38. There is no blast guard for the top strap. Should there be on that model?

Those are the factory Ahrends grips the gun came with.
They are a great combination of good looking wood, concealable size, and just large enough to get a controllable grip.

I have a 325 Night Guard.
First, let me say I used S&W Mod 25's in 45 ACP for seveal years ad a duty gun. First with half moon clips, and later when full moon clips became avialable I started using them.

So I like the full moon clip system, and I like the concept of an N frame S&W in 45 ACP...

Now to the 325 Night Guard. It is a Scandium frame gun, ie a lightweight frame.

So you might not want to shoot in thousands and thousands of rounds...

However for normal non high volume competition use, I do not worry. I have some 5 shot S&W's that I have had since 1972 that have been shot a bunch, with hot duty loads, the still work just fine.

So. with the above experiences and qualifications, I find the S&W 325 to be a Most Excellent handgun. I keep mine under my pillow EVERY night.

I take it on a lot of road trips. I have a holster specially designed as an anti carjacker holster. It is made in South Africa.

While it is not as "handy" in my pants pocket as my S&W Bodyguard, I do have some pants where I can carry the 325 in comfort and concealed.

Many times I do so...

I find it very controlable with full power 230gr 45ACP ammo, and controlable with +P 45 ACP as well, although I do not see the need to shoot +P in a short barrel.

It has become one of my favorite revolvers.
