Model 34-1 Nickel manufacture date

Picked up this beauty today and trying to see if I can find out an approximate manufacture date.

Probably produced in 1981. That is a nice one! Square butt, which makes for slightly better handling on these small frame .22 LR units. Deb and I have several Kit Guns and most of them have the round butt. I like them both but do find the square butt easier to shoot well.

My nickel 2” square butt is my most used handgun, I shoot it about weekly. I really wanted blued, but after years of searching settled for a nickel one. Glad I did, as it has the best trigger of any J frame I have ever fired. It also doesn’t suffer tight chambers, loading and extracting every type of ammo I can get my hands on, even when dirty

Interesting I thought it would be older than 1981. It’s a beauty regardless.

I have a RB version that dates to '89.

M prefix serial numbers started in 1969. Since they were only used on the .22/32 revolvers, it took a while for them to get into the higher numbers. M160000 to M193000 were from 1981.
