I have a model 60, no dash, "R" series, in great shape. my local gun shop has a model 36 in great shape. Which is the more valuable gun? i'm thinking of trading the 60 for the 36. Is that a good decision?

I have the blued 36, I like the darker guns for carry. I see the advantage in the stainless as far as cleaning and finish durability. I would personally make the trade, but the decision is yours.

The 36 is appealing. I prefer the 60. I have a 649 no dash and find the narrow front sight and the sharp edges on the trigger harder to shoot.

Model 19-3

Just recently picked this up on GunBroker. Can't wait to shoot it.

Two questions:

What's the vintage of the 36? That would make all the difference for me. Older than the 60? -- make the trade (especially if the 36 has a flat latch and diamond grips). I don't follow the 60s so don't know value. There are scads of 36s, and the price range is as wide as the availability.

What do you (are you going to) do with the chief? If it's your EDC keep the 60. If it's an occasional shooter or night stand gun go for the 36.

I carry stainless, but I just love a revolver in a blue uniform.

I could easily join the camp of those who've said, keep the 60 and get the 36. Better than a savings account, but I'm guessing the missus won't buy that.

My two bits,

Bob

I understand the financial considerations, ... but! I think you will later regret getting rid of that very nice model 60! I have one just like it, and I know I would. I owned a Model 36 first (a long time first!). I coveted the Model 60 when it was released. Never could find one and couldn't have afforded it if I had, although I likely would have put up one of my children as collateral to buy it on the credit if someone would have made that arrangement! In later years, I found my copy of your gun and bought it. Prior to this time, I grudgingly traded my Model 36 for another revolver I thought I wanted more than it. Actually, I did want it more, but I never got over the loss of the 36. Yes, I replaced it at a later date, but it's not the one I had and it did not ride with me during the time I owned the first. I'm proud of the replacement, but every time I look at it, I think of the first one!

If you can manage to buy the Model 36 in any manner that does not seriously compromise your relationship with your wife, I think you ought to do so. I don't think you will ever regret it. But that's just me talking, and you and I are maybe different. I don't know how you feel about your Model 60, or what it's history with you is. If you have any feeling at all about it other than it just being another revolver, try to keep it.

On the other hand, if you can only have one, then by all means get the one you like the best. Just be as sure as you can about the one you like best!!!! Good luck with your decision.

We were issued a Stainless revolver when on horse patrol.
It was a lot more visible to the public. Was it more corrosion proof in the outside environment?
Probably.
Stainless seems to weigh a little more.
I agree for you to get both.
Then do your own study as to which you like best.
Then make your decision as to which you will sell and which to keep.

I think if you get both of them in the stable at the same time they will both stay. I know that would happen at my place, anyway. A way would be found.
