Hello I have a chance at a model 37 no dash 3in square butt I'm not sure what year nor do I have any pics from what I know condition wise is excellent he says unfired I wish I had pictures and the SN the pawn shop employee wouldn't let me all I remember is a J before the numbers price is 600$ with tax no box or paperwork beautiful looking gun I see no blue wear or flaking on frame very faint turn line breach face appears to me to be never fired. Ultimately I'm asking if 600 otd is a normal price for the gun or if I should wait.

*Update just got home and finished taking pictures paid 580 it's I absolutely love the grips one has a dark line running through it I enjoy 3 screws pinned 3inbbl SN J356516 the frame has a x with square around it and a F circled what does this mean? The other side of the frame has D12 , 75471 , DF, upside down 4. Thank you for any info! Sorry for camera quality IMG_20250625_143358069.jpgIMG_20250625_143330751.jpgIMG_20250625_143229510.jpgIMG_20250625_143138442.jpgIMG_20250625_143109777.jpgIMG_20250625_143039699.jpgIMG_20250625_143021854.jpgIMG_20250625_142609153.jpgIMG_20250625_142531168.jpgIMG_20250625_142454880.jpgIMG_20250625_142355109.jpgIMG_20250625_142332993.jpgIMG_20250625_142115243.jpgIMG_20250625_142202005.jpg

If that Chiefs Special Airweight is as you describe, the price is not a bargain, but it's also not outrageous.

The J before a one-to-five-digit serial number would be 1969 or 1970. If there are six digits after the J, the date range would be 1973 to 1983.

Roll out the cylinder and look for a crack in the frame below where the barrel protrudes through the frame. A cracked frame makes it a paperweight, albeit a light one.

I'm gonna go back today and check for cracks I didnt think to look that far, I'm also gonna try one more time to get that price down if they budge a dollar I think I'm in

Update waiting for the 4473 to clear price is 580$ I'll have pics and number up soon

Brush2000,I like all of the 3 in 36s and 37s I have 2 36s and would never give them up.The 37 is lighter than my 36s. My rule is if I like it I buy it because I may not see another.

Brush nice looking gun! Does not appear to have the “crack of doom” though your picture angle isn’t ideal. In this day and age for a classic in that condition not really that bad price wise

Very nice. Congratulations.

The Greek letter epsilon “ℇ” ampersand in Smith ℇ Wesson text on left side of barrel along with the serial number suggests Smith & Wesson shipped it near the summer of 1975. I've observed that ampersand on 3" Chiefs in 1975/76.
