Model 39 extractor

The extractor on my Model 39 no dash broke today. Anyone know of a source of advice?

The long extractor on the M39 was a known problem for breaking, the M39-2 has a shorter extractor as a result. I looked on Numrich website (gunpartscorp.com) and the old style long extractor is out of stock. You might look on eBay.

Jack First, (not cheap at $96.00 before shipping,) has old style long extractors made in house.

Years ago I was so impressed by these one of my first infractions here was posting about how perfect they were. Still not sure why I got in trouble. It wasn’t the last time I gave a heads up about something that was for sale, not an active auction and earned a warning/infraction but it’s worth it.

They also offer new extractor springs and plungers if needed while replacing the extractor. I didn’t change these out and it’s been awhile so I’m probably alright.

I have collected and shot M39's for 40 years and have never had an extractor break. Rumors swirl about them breaking but I have only seen two posts, including this one, about where they actually broke. It's been preached on this site to always chamber a round only directly from the magazine. For data tracking, can the OP provide details on circumstances when the extractor broke?

I was using Winchester 115 gr. fmj, chambered the first round, fired and failed to extract. I could immediately see the extractor slightly out of position and then noticed the crack towards the rear.

I wanted to add that the broken 39 extractor I experienced looked like it was faulty metal.

LGS called and said they had a 39 that I might want. Cheap. It was externally rough including an intact set in place broken extractor. They basically gave it to me so I found and ordered a new part. The old extractor was broken just forward of the retaining pin. I’m not sure how it got broken but the metal at the break looked weird. It was kinda crystalline or grainy like cheap cast metal looks when broken.

I saved the broken extractor pieces which I’ll look for.
