Bid on this 39 and won unexpectedly!? 99% condition, the dust cover caught my eye as I never saw one before, original box with 2 spare mags for just under $1000 delivered…. So am happy, whacha think…?

Wow that’s a beauty! I would say you did well! I understand the vig is heart-stopping with that joint so you must have got this for a very reasonable bid… I wonder why it did not get bid higher?

Grooves for dust covers were machined in frames up to around S/N A300000. They were not popular as they served no real purpose and tended to wear off the finish on the slides. I bought three guns that had them but quickly removed them as soon as they arrived. They could be ordered as a separate item but didn't routinely ship with a gun unless requested. Interesting that S&W never obtained a patent for them.
$1000 delivered from RIA was a great deal.
