Model 41 .22 short bargain :) NOW WITH PICS

Howdy all,

Haven't posted for quite a while but in the time I have been away working I have picked up quite a few more guns.

The most recent was this morning...

Now, I hate posting new threads with no pics but I will have some on wednesday.

I just found a model 41 in .22 short. It is the 7" with the muzzle brake. Its in VERY good condition with all the blue, etc in tact. It cost me $495.00 Aussie dollars which is a cheap 41 in anyone's money.

It has serial 413XX (guessing 60/61?).

Just wondering is this a lightweight model because of the .22 short chambering?

ANy info you have on this model would be helpful...I don't know very much although someone told me there were not many made?

22 short

Good going, although if it is stamped model 41, you may just
have a model 41 with a 22 short conversion.
Otherwise it would be stamped 41-1. They only made 1000
and more conversion units were made than you could imagine.
Also there are cases of some model 41-1s not getting the -1
stamped on them, so without a letter from Roy, you will never really
know. The slide is aluminum, since you have less powder for operating
the slide, it also has a lighter recoil spring, and has a slide stop with a
very small notch, if the regular slide stop were installed, it would not
hold the slide back after the final round was shot.
They are great fun to shoot, zero recoil.
Magazines can be expensive, $100.00 on up ea.
So hopefully you have a few of them, since 5 shots do not take long
to pop off. Look forward to photos.

That serial number should fall into the range of Model 41-1 guns and if it is a real 41-1, it's worth roughly twice what a similar condition and vintage Model 41 is. If its not marked 41-1, it might be worth getting a factory letter to confirm what it is. Either way it's a cool gun and a great find.

Since the magazines were mentioned, here's a few examples of how they differ from the regular Model 41 mags.

There are filler pieces in the mag body to accommodate the shorter round. Compare to regular mag on the right.

Ill certainly get a letter on this one. I am actualy looking forward to shooting it...the accuracy is pretty legendary

Ill have to keep a look out for magazines I guess too

Does anyone have any clue how many conversion kits were produced?

Ok so I went back to the LGS today and took a few pics.

I also found another magazine in the shop that they guy has thrown in with the deal.

Not bad for $495

I will certainly be getting this one lettered....its too close to the right 41-1 serials to not to!

I have done a little research and it seems that there are a few examples of early original build 22 short models that were only stamped 41 not 41-1

I can only hope and wait for the infor from Mr Jinks!

What a great find. The model 41 is one of my favorite .22 Pistols. Enjoy it.

As a side note, you can convert to .22LR with the change-out of the slide, mag, bbl, slide stop, and slide recoil spring. All of these are generally still easily found. A nice piece - enjoy.
