I have a 1959/1960 vintage model 41 that I bought from the original owner in the early 1990s. Recently I replaced the extractor pin, extractor spring, firing pin and firing pin spring - all new parts were OEM S&W purchased from Brownells. I also bought a few bolt pins (also OEM) because the one I removed was unusable at that point.

My question is what tool, or what type/size punch do I need, to "swage" the bolt pin in place? Local gunsmiths I've asked don't seem to know. Thanks.

A .125", or 1/8" center punch would work well. Whichever size you choose, make sure to "back up" the pin head, and choose a punch tip diameter that won't exceed the hole diameter, or the punch may damage the cavity instead of the pin you are steaking.
This particular pin only needs a very light staking of the "flange", or extra material around the edge of the end of the pin, so that it will not walk out of the slide.
