Good morning from Germany. I'm a great fan of the 41 pistol and have already a few of them. Last week I bought a close to mint 41 with extendable front sight. The original owner (or who?) modified the magazine base which looks nice. I can change it if it's not factory made because I have a lot of magazines. The pistol is in the A 193xxx SN range and wears German proof marks from 1973. I guess the former owner never used it or only very very seldom. What I first thought to be a marking the owner made, in reality seems to be a red dot which I think is made from those sealing laquer which was in use to secure letters. Often these seals had a letter of a company or of the owner. Here it looks to me like the "flaming bomb" which was in use during WW I and WW II. The small red dot is on both sides of the pistol. On the left side behind the SN and on the right side before MODEL 41. Both have the same marking, although the marking is standing upright on the left and laying on the side on the right. I can't believe that the pre-owner made this marking because there is no reason to do so. But you in the States are much more experienced regarding the variation enad extras of the 41. As said before, I have a few 41 and 46 pistols and will post a picture soon. I wait for another one which, as the owner says, is with US marking. I have not seen it yet, but hope to get it soon.
So if anybody can give me and explenation what the red dot marking could be I would be happy. Thanks ind andvance and have a nice weekend.
