Hello all :)

I have a Model 41 (not stamped 41-1) in .22 short. It is in great condition and is a real tack driver.

I have been collecting for a few years now but this great little pea shooter has become surplus to my needs.

I'm thinking of selling it but don't know what its worth. I have a pretty good idea re other Smith's but not this little one.

It has ben used, its not been a safe queen. There is some VERY light (old) pitting on the trigger guard (very slight) as well as light usage marks. The pitting can be seen in the first photo.

It is an early/mid 60's model (Serial 41XXX). I do not have a letter for it and do not know if its was manufactured originally as a .22 short or has a conversion kit. It also comes with 2 five shot magazines.

Any ideas what I should be putting on it for sale please?

Any help greatly appreciated

Mike

Nice 41!
I would be willing to bet a lot of money that you will be hearing from member "Aussie Collector" very shortly.....

You have an awesome gun. I'd love to have it. However, I must admit that it kind of irritated me when you described it as "little" and as a "pea shooter". It's neither, it is what it is....a fine target pistol that anyone would be happy to own. Good luck and as stated above, watch you PM box.

Your gun is most likely a 41 with a short kit. Only a factory letter will tell you for sure.
The stamping was not done on much earlier guns, yours being 413XX, if a 41-1 should be stamped.
Also I’m not (yet) aware of any 41-1’s in the 41XXX range which also adds weight to it being a 41.

I think the gun is worth $1200 or more in the US, I also think that in Australia you will be doing really really well if you can get $800. Unfortunately the gun would be worth more in Australia with a .22lr barrel as we have many more shooters and few collectors.

If you go to used guns you can search sold guns, there are a few 41s, also the US gunbroker site will give a good idea of US prices.

Shame it’s not a 41-1 as I’m always looking for another. Once you do have a figure or value please PM me as I will be interested.

Also - A pea rifle in Australia is a rimfire rifle so I guess pea pistol or pea shooter is as well. Don’t know if it’s Aussie slang or where it came from. Pea rifle was in the legislation here some years ago and even a licence category.

If anyone will know for sure it will be either Aussie Collector or Tom Beckwith on here regarding how this was made, I also suspect it to be a conversion kit as well which would put it in the $12-$1500. range here in Canada. Definitely a nice gun to have and shoot. I wish it was in my gunbox at the moment myself.
