I have a early 70's model 41 (shoots and functions flawlessly) it came with one of the old style magazines with a metal follower. I bought 5 of the newer magazines with the plastic followers and I noticed while all of the magazines function well once loaded in the gun but when you press the mag release button the original magazine drops out with gravity alone but the newer ones you have to pull out with your finger, I should measure them but was wondering if anyone else had this issue and is there an easy fix.

thanks

You might try inserting and releasing the mags a few times, then look for wear spots. Don't forget to examine the notch in the mag that holds it in place.

Also might try waxing them to make them slide easier.

Sometimes the paint is a little too thick and they take time to wear in. I have also had this issue happen to me on the newer mags as well. Just keep useing them as they will get better.

What brand are your magazines? I bought 10 S&W Magazines from
Midway, and they all drop out when I release them.

Most of mine I have bought here in Canada and have the S&W label on the packing labels on them. I have had stick and non=stick as well. They eventually wear in and work fine after a while. I have ten at this time.

I polished the newer magazines with a white scotchbrite pad and Johnson paste wax and wiped them down, seemed too help a lot. I did measure the new ones and they seem to be a few thousands of an inch thicker than old ones.
