Looking for more mags for my Model 41's. Do new mags work in guns from the 80's or 90's? Or do I need to search out older/vintage mags? Best source for them? Thanks in advance.

If you search here, you will see some have had problems with them, though they seem to be "fixable" in some cases.

Numrich has both new and used M41 factory magazines. The used ones have the metal follower, I believe, as they have a different part number from the new ones (plastic follower) on the Numrich website.

#16 on the parts breakdown is the complete magazine. When you click to order one, you get the option of a new or used one. Used ones are $28.39, new ones are $36.40.

I've got a M41 made in 1985, so I ordered a couple of used ones a few days ago. Haven't got them yet, but I've ordered many parts for different guns from Numrich and never got a lemon. I got a couple of new factory magazines for my M39-2 back around Christmas, they work well. Usually I get what I ordered within 3-4 weeks.

The experiences from all my shooting team members, friends and myself is NO! Not only don't new mag's work in older guns, many will not even seat in the pistol. S&W representatives themselves confirmed this to me when I spoke to them. Don't waste your time. Go to eBay, bite the bullet and get the old metal follower type. They are a bit pricy but they will last forever and always work perfectly.

I have a 70’s era model 41 that came with 1 mag with. Metal follower, I bought 5 NOS mags with plastic followers and they all work fine

Covered many times.
There seems to have been problems with the magazines that were packaged ishrink wrapped to a cardboard hang tag.
I’ve recently tested 10 new mags, packaged in plastic boxes inside a cardboard cutout box (current for all s&w mags as best I can tell from browsing LGSs), and they all function perfectly in my m41s. One with an A prefix serial number and another that’s pre-A.
My recommendation is to buy either used with metal followers or new current stock, avoid used with black followers as some have been inconsistent. The 12 round magazines with orange followers are also GTG but cost more.
FWIW, I have 37 magazines for my M41s.

Edit: got my 10 from Midway, currently 27.99. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1006204562

Ordered four mags from Numrich; three of the new mags in blister pack and one "used" mag. Tried one of the new and the old one today. Both fired off all 10 rounds without any issues. The new mag needed some coaxing to be removed from the 41 but other than that, so far, so good. Thanks for all the input.

Just an update on my purchase of four mags from Numrich... Finally had good weather to use them this past weekend. Bought three new manufacture and one NOS. They all worked perfectly. No failures to feed or eject or any problems.
