Hello all, I bought a new 7 inch barrel for my model 41 and the keng rear sight is marked smith and wesson but the barrel itself has no markings. The caliber is not even marked on this barrel. It was purchased as new and was wrapped and taped in the S&W wax paper. Is this normal for the new 7 inch barrels? Thanks for any info on this.

Maybe you have a rare collectable barrel. Sort of a misprint. That would nice wouldn't it. J/K...did you get it from S&W?

I looked at the barrel under magnification and you can see very faint markings on the barrel and no my eyes aren't that bad. They are in the correct location but not visible to the naked eye. It looks like the laser was having problems on marking this barrel. I purchased the barrel from Gilbert's Guns in Kentucky. I have contacted them and am waiting to see what they want to do. I think what I have is just an improperly etched barrel, maybe that does make it rare. Are all of the 7 inch barrels thinner than the 5.5 heavy barrels? The 7 inch barrel looks thin sitting on the frame compared to the 5.5.

Yes, they are more slender.Personally, I'd ask for one properly marked.

It should have the obvious marking. My 7" does.

I agree. If you want to sell it someday it will look worn or undesirable. You paid good money for it. It should have a showcase appearance. S&W doesn't seem to inspect their outgoing products. I just returned a 5.5". It had blemishes and a poor finish.
