My 41 will sometimes accidently fire when I allow the slide to drop when loading first round from magazine. A thorough cleaning and changing of firing pin spring has not cured this problem. Any ideas?

Is there any possibility the firing pin is broken, and the forward part has enough mass it will fly forward hard enough to fire a cartridge when the slide is dropped? Either that or a burr on the bolt face large enough to set the rimfire off.

It is not a broken firing pin since I just had it out to replace the firing pin spring. Bolt face looks fine, too. However, I just returned from the range with it and had it double on me. First time for that. I am thinking it might be a weak sear spring now.

Pull slide and check for FREE operation of fireing pin. Should be NO resistance returning to rear after vigerous push forward. This is extremely rare in my expetience and was due to VERY dirty slide internals.

I just checked the firing pin for ease of travel and there is NO resistance returning to rear. I have cleaned the pistol and replaced the firing pin spring recently. I also set the trigger pull weight back up with no improvement.

Check the chamber mouth, I had one that the firing pin had raised a small dimple on(needed a magnifying glass to really see) that was actully enough to set the round off from the front side of the rim.

I just checked the chamber mouth with a hand lens and can find no apparent problem there. I believe that I have slam fired with the 7 inch barrel and had it double while wearing the 5 inch one, so it is a problem with the action some how.
