Has anyone else had an issue with the Slide Stop -Ejector on their Model 41? I bought mine in 2015, and took it apart for a detailed cleaning four years ago. The Slide Stop Spring was of the coiled variety, and was wrapped around the screw holding the Safety to the Frame. While reassembling my pistol, I lost my grip, and the spring disappeared into the shag carpeting never to be found again.

I ordered a replacement from Numrich after being unable to get through to Smith and Wesson. What I received was a piece of metal about 3/8 inches long and 1/16 inches wide that had to be staked in to the Slide Stop. This was beyond my capability, so I took it to a gunsmith.

Three weeks ago, I disassembled my pistol again, and the "spring" came out of the Slide Stop and I was unable to restake it. A trip to the Brownell's website and $80.00 later I'm back in business.

Has anyone else had their Model 41 come with a coiled Slide Stop - Ejector Spring?

My M41 has a leaf spring, not a coil type. Quite honestly, I was not aware they ever came with a coil spring on the Slide Stop. It might be possible to put in the leaf spring type, but without your specific gun in front of me or a good close up picture I can't say for sure. You could call S&W and ask or if you care too, and/or take some good close ups for us to look at.

My slide stop and ejector are original to the gun which I bought new in 1979. It has been shot tens and tens of thousands of times and they are still in good shape and functioning as designed.

The only issue I’ve had on my M41 was the magazine safety causing the gun not to fire. After several episodes I removed the whole thing. Even after a good cleaning and oiling a match or two later it would act up again. Hard to be competitive when your pistol doesn’t work. It runs fine without it.

I purchased a 41 several weeks ago, #UER8XXX. I love the pistol but after several hundred rounds did a thorough cleaning. Somehow I snapped-off the spring in the slide stop. Undoubtedly user incompetence. So a new slide stop on order from Brownells. Although no excuse for my gunsmithing incompetence, I have to say the slide stop is a rather "cheesy" part.
