I was really excited to pick up a new Model 43C at a show this weekend. I had been looking at them along with LCRs lately and decided to make the purchase.

So I took my brand new Model 43C to the range today. Have to say I am a bit disappointed. I chose this over an LCR as I wanted to keep supporting my home town manufacturer ( I live in the town next to Springfield) and there were some important distinctions that I liked better.

I love the look of the 43C over the LCR and unlike some, I like that the trigger on the Smith stages where the LCR doesn't. I also think the white dot sights are nice and good for practicing. It's also smaller and lighter and I will carry this on occasion so that was important.

I ran multiple ammo, all CCI brand. CCI SV 40 grain, CCI AR Tactical and CCI Pistol Match (which has the same specs as the SV).

I have to say, my first outing was not fun. First of all this gun after the first 24 rounds was filthy! I mean a mess. I have never seen lead build up so quickly. I know the .22lr is a dirty round but I also own a 617, Model 63 and an SR22 and never seen anything like it.

Thankfully it was mostly cosmetic as I didn't have any FTF, and extraction was pretty easy. But I got a lot of crud blowing out of the forcing cone and the outside of the cylinder became dirty too!

The biggest issue I had was the trigger. When completing the pull, after a few rounds it was actually painful. The trigger sort of pinches as it pulls all the way to the guard. Not pleasant. Plus, even though I am shooting .22lr, an 11 ounce gun provides a bit more recoil than I thought. Lot's of muzzle flip which was surprising.

I will keep on practicing with it and give it another go later this week. Anyone else have similar issues? Anyone have recommendations for ammo they use in this gun?

Thanks!

Matt

I bought one new about a month ago thinking it would be a nice playmate with my 340pd. After 8rds of the cci 22's it would lock up and the cylinder wouldn't turn at all. So I tried the remmington 22 golden bullets and it was fine. And yes after 100 rds it was a mess. The 22 is a dirty round to start with but that was a bit much. Needless to say I sold it off and recoped most of my money back. I went ahead and bought a 22 conversation kit for my Glock 19 and love it. Good luck with yours.
