Any chance of posting me a copy of the owners user manual for the S&W 52,Thanking you, Demetrious. Email address is [email protected]

l was also wondering, if S&W made a 6 shot magazine for the 52, because in the Service match at the Melbourne International Shooting Club l need 6 rounds and the 5 round mag was originally for The Center fire completion. Any chance of finding a gun dealer who sells them in Australia?

I cannot help with a 52-1 manual but below is a Model 52-2.

This Model was long ago discontinued and finding parts will be difficult no matter where you live. Magazines are very pricey - when they can even be found - typically bringing around $150 US. The magazines can be modified to hold an extra round by extending the slot on the side, allowing the follower to drop down far enough for the extra round. People typically use a rat-tail file to do this, but a mill would certainly work well. One round is the most that can be gained using this method though, and it's up to you whether you wish to risk damaging a rather expensive item.

Do the rules allow dropping the slide on a five round magazine, removing it, and adding the sixth round?

I originally bought the Model 52 from Noel Ryan who was then the Australian Rapid fire and centerfire champion in the mid 80's ,now I need a 6 shot mag for service match,so a slight adjustment in extending the magazine slot for six rounds would not be an issue.Nb: when I bought it second hand I only got one mag.

Many years ago when I bought my 52-1, I asked S&W for a manual. They didn't have a original, but mailed me a copy of it.

JackM has the immediate fix for your issue if you can do it and stay within the rules. Start with the slide locked back on an empty pistol, insert a loaded 5 round magazine and close the slide. You now have 1 round taken from the magazine and placed in the chamber. Remove the magazine and top off the the magazine with a fifth round and re-insert it into the pistol. You now have a pistol with 6 rounds in it. You could engage the safety lever as a precaution when doing this to avoid an unwanted discharge. When commanded to fire you just have to remember to move the safety lever to the fire position.

You accomplish putting 6 rounds in the pistol without altering a magazine. If you only have one magazine though you really need to pickup a few extras. They aren't getting any cheaper and the only source of after-market ones doesn't have a great track record on working very well in these pistols. Good luck.
