Check out BME-Mounts . Attached are pics of mine with their S&W52-RR mount . It replaces factory rear sight assembly . Gun can be returned to factory config in 30 mins or less . No drilling or tapping . They have other choices too . Mine is set up with a 1" UD 4moa reddot & a Wolff 7lb recoil spring .
The UD he is refering to is an UltraDot.
They come in several versions. I much prefer the 30mm Tube versions. The 25mm (1 Inch Tube) version has a much more limited field of view. Not bad for target shooting. The 30mm is much better for Action Shooting.
Lots of handgun shooters use the MatchDot version. You will need almost 2-1/4" between the scope rings to mount a MatchDot II.
The UltraDot is made in Japan, and is a rugged, well built optical sight. I have an UltraDot 30 on my 9.5" Barrel 480 Ruger Super RedHawk Hunting Revolver. I have the 1" UltraDot 25 on my 7.5" Barrel 480 Super RedHawk. I also have a new 30mm Tube UltraDot 6 to go on my RimFire 2 Gun Carbine. The UltraDot is the most Bang that you can get for your Bucks that will stay together, and function properly. By next Deer Season I will probably pick up a Weigand Combat Super RedHawk (480 Ruger Version) Scope Base, and install a new 30mm MatchDot II on one of them replacing the 1" UltraDot 25. The reason is to gain more field of view, and to try out a smaller 2 MOA Dot Size in low light to see if it cuts down on Bloom at Dark O'Clock when Deer Hunting.
The 1" tube is less weight cycling with the slide . That & a 7lb recoil spring allows functioning without having to bump loads above std mid range loads . Mine will function with 2.7 BE , 3.1 W231 etc w/o problems . I do use the 30mm on my 1911 wadguns .
