Is there a source for actual correct main springs and recoil springs?

Wolf has variable rate recoil springs, but I'm not a fan of variable rate.

I called Wolf and asked about main springs and they said that there is no demand for Model 41 or 52 springs...which seems a bit odd considering the volume of those pistols out there.

I also tried the "search" function here before asking, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to use it, as any searched I try comes up with zero results.

Thank You!

There's several places that offer springs. Wolfe springs are just the biggest outfit for springs. You could also try brownells, or midway. Then there's Numrich. Numrich sells used parts, as well as some new. Have you tried calling S&W? Springs seem like a normal wear part.

After reading the first post I checked the Numrich site. It said the Model 52 recoil spring was 'out of stock'.

A few years ago I called S&W to inquire about a new recoil spring for my 6906. My spring had exceeded the time but not round limit. The S&W rep told me the spring should be replaced, and then sent me one, no charge. Great service.

I then asked about 52 recoil springs. He said their computer did not show springs for the 52. So dead end there.

I was able to get the springs from Wolfe, but that was a few years ago.

I will be interested to find out if someone can locate a source. The problem of course is that 52s, relatively speaking, are and always were, thin on the ground.

With Numrich, you have to get on the notification list for out of stock parts. I'm sure that it'll take awhile. I waited on an obsolete recoil spring for over a year. And that was on a very common gun. There used to be another outfit that made parts for obsolete guns, but I don't remember the name at the moment. Surely someone in America makes a spring that would fit, and function. I'd try all the above plus Ebay. It has to eventually turn up. But a quick internet search suggests bad news for a direct fit spring, with easy availability. You might have to get more creative.

That is why I posted here! Not easily found.

I am most concerned with finding a main spring at this time.

I forgot about Jack First, but will look there tonight.

I thought that 52’s were fairly common, so I figured springs would be available, but I guess it depends on which group you associate with!

Thanks for the replies!

Jack First! That's the one. Springs of all shapes and sizes, as well as spring rates are out there. Something is bound to be interchangeable. Look at the bright side, it's probably a smaller problem than finding something like a replacement barrel or something similar. I once found a replacement valve spring for an obsolete compressor, right in a generic harbor freight spring kit, that I already had handy. Been working for a few years now. Either way, something will turn up.

It took me a couple of years to find a replacement barrel for my 52 no dash--thanks to a forum member I have a new (to me) barrel and some miscellaneous parts and a spare (drilled and tapped) slide with extractor.

I buy all of my springs from Wolff, including some pretty esoteric items (Broomhandle Mauser, Kart .22 conversion, etc.) and I do have an extra spring for my 52 but I ordered that a few years ago. I'll have to check their inventory shortly.

Wolff DOES list a bunch of different weight recoil springs (6.5 to 8 pounds) for a S&W M41. It does not say anythings about being out of stock or backordered so I assume they are available.
