Model 56 - what to look for?

A local gun shop has a S&W Model 56 for sale. I looked at it briefly and it is marked Model 56, it has wood grips, no letter. I didn't know to look for the U.S. on the back strap. I hadn't heard of the model 56 until a few days ago and a thread here on the forums.

I'd rate the finish at about 75% and the dealer is asking $4995.

What do I need to look at/look for?

I think the price is high based on the description, and from recent online sales. I would do your due diligence with research, and if a sale in in the cards after that I would negotiate having a letter of authenticity confirming it is original.
